E-mail: [email protected] Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a form of extranodal non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, which occurs in the brain, leptomeninges, spinal cord, or eyes. PCNSL is an uncommon intracranial neoplasm, particularly in the immunocompetent patient population. An immunosuppressive state is the unique established risk factor for PCNSL, and the HIV-related primary lymphoma is 3600-fold more common compared with the general population. This tumor constitutes 0.3–1.5% of all intracranial neoplasm in patients without AIDS. The age-adjusted incidence in the United States has augmented 3 folds in the last three decades, passing from 0.16 per 100000 between 1973–1984 to 0.48 per 100000 between 1985–1997, although current data suggests a plateau or a slightly decrease in the annual incidence. The purpose of this study is to report and discuss the uncommon occurrence of PCNSL in an immunocompetent patient.

Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia preceding the Diagnosis of Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma
In this study, a 2.5-year-old boy suffering from a febrile seizure with normal laboratory tests and a history of immune hemolytic anemia was examined. Brain MRI demonstrated some tumors in the frontal, parietal, and occipital lobe that corroborated the pathology results of primary central nervous system lymphoma for the patient. The patient was treated with high- dose of Methotrexate. Our re...

Recent increases in the incidence of primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL), a rare non-Hodgkin's lymphoma arising in the brain, have been noted in both immunodeficient and immunocompetent patients. Compared with lymphomas originating outside the central nervous system, the biology of PCNSL at the molecular or cytogenetic level has not been well characterized, yet it is important to th...
متن کاملBHS guidelines for primary central nervous system lymphoma
Primary central nervous system lymphoma is a rare form of extranodal B cell lymphoma of the brain, the eyes, the meninges or the spinal cord in the absence of systemic lymphoma. The management of primary central nervous system lymphoma remains controversial, which is related to the rarity of the cases and the small number of controlled studies available. The present consensus report provides th...
متن کاملA case of intraventricular primary central nervous system lymphoma.
We report a case of primary central nervous system lymphoma presenting as multiple intraventricular masses in an immunocompetent 68 year old man with severe headache and unsteady gait. The diagnosis was obtained by analysis of the cerebrospinal fluid and subsequent surgical biopsy. This is an unusual appearance for primary central nervous lymphoma, with the majority of the cases presenting as s...
متن کاملPrimary Central Nervous System Lymphoma
Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is an aggressive non‐Hodgkin Lymphoma, most frequently diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma in immunocompetent patients, which is confined to the central nervous system.[1] In the past two decades, its incidence has been steadily increasing. However, differential diagnosis, such as demyelinating disease, could be a challenge particularly in patients with...
